Leprechaun Craft

Your luck is about to change! In this craft, you’ll be making a wee little leprechaun that is sure to bring the luck o’ the Irish to you straight away. He may even be able to lead you to the pot of gold!

Supplies:

  • 1 candle cup bead (recommended size: 1/2” hole) for body
  • 1 medium round bead (recommended size: 3/4”) for head
  • 3 small round beads (recommended size: 3/8”) for feet and gold piece
  • Spool bead (recommended size: 7/8” x 1-1/8”) for hat
  • Green ribbon (recommended width: 1/8”) for legs and arms
  • Green and black paint
  • Gold glitter
  • Curly red doll hair (optional)
  • 1 gold candy wrapper
  • Glue
  • Markers

Preparation:

  1. Paint the candle cup bead black, the spool bead green and 2 of the small round beads black. Take the 3rd small round bead and use your fingers to spread a thin layer of glue across it. Then roll the bead through a small pile of the gold glitter. Allow to dry.
  2. Carefully draw a face on the head bead.

Assembly:

  1. Start by attaching a clump of hair to the bottom edge of the spool hat with glue. Don’t worry if the hair looks a little unruly, you can always trim it later. Place some glue on the top of the head bead then push the two beads together so that the hair is caught in between them. Allow to dry.
  2. While your leprechaun’s head is setting, cut approximately 7 inches of green ribbon. Slide your gold glitter bead onto the ribbon so that it is right in the middle. Next, take the two ends of the ribbon and feed them through the candle cup bead. Do not pull taut; instead let the gold bead fall down over the edge of the candle cup bead.
  3. Line the top of the candle cup with glue – taking care to make sure that the “arm” ribbons are spaced about 1/2” apart. Carefully lower the head bead and attached hat bead onto the candle cup. You may need to hold this for a few minutes while the glue sets.
  4. Slide 1 small black bead onto each of the ribbon ends and tie knots below the beads to secure the leprechaun’s feet.

Finishing Touches:

  1. Cut a small square out of the gold candy wrapper to serve as a buckle on your little friend’s hat. Use a black marker to outline a band around the spool, and then use glue to attach your candy wrapper square in the front and center of the hat.
  2. You can also consider giving your friend a beard by attaching a loop of hair around his chin with glue.
