Multiplayer: What Do You Think?

Last week, JumpStart launched our new multiplayer features, officially making the virtual world at JumpStart.com a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game! Now, players can interact with each other via facial expressions (emoticons) and dance moves. And soon, we’ll be introducing canned chat, which will allow players to communicate via age-appropriate, pre-selected phrases.

  1. My kid tried it… loved that she could teleport and dance on top of the disco ball…
She hasn’t found many kids on when she is on… she prefers other sites for the group interaction on the net type activity. She said it isn’t anything new.

As a parent, I love Jumpstart for the educational value. My child loved the 3D worlds (really really loved them, and so did I). She tried the online worlds that are available so far and I found them to be less educational. The kid liked them… but I wasn’t happy with the lack of educational value.

I’m sad that MMO (little educational value) took priority over opening the new underwater area (might have educational value)

There are plenty of children’s MMOs out there… all without any educational value… make yours different… please.

    • Hi there,

Thanks so much for your feedback! We’re glad your daughter enjoyed the new features. As a safety measure, she’ll only see up to 20 other Jumpeez in the virtual world at one time. That does mean it might take a little looking to find other Jumpeez, but it allows us to maintain a safer, more controlled environment.

Although the MMO is not explicitly educational right now, we hope to engage kids as intensely as possible in the virtual world so that they’ll continue to be motivated to play learning games. When they play learning games, they earn coins, which can be used to purchase cool accessories that we hope they’ll want to show off to the other players in the virtual world.

As we continue to develop the virtual world, we’re planning to add cooperative missions and lessons so that children can learn together. We hope that this will enhance players’ learning experience even more. MarineLand, which will contain lots of learning games, will also be available soon.

Thanks again for your feedback. We’ll pass your concerns along to our producers and curriculum writers – they’re always interested in hearing what parents have to say!

      Thanks again,

      The JumpStart Team

  2. The multi-player feature adds even more fun to jumpstart world! My 5 year old has enjoyed it so far. He likes to read the other jumpee’s names, and make the “heart eyes” face to the laides. He even found out how to get on top of the disco ball!!! Fun times!

  3. I do like the idea of canned chat versus normal.

I will have to look further into this as far as educational aspects. I’m sure, however, that my boys would love this game.

  4. My children are very happy with this. One is 10 years old though and sometimes she gets upset on how weird the sayings are. She said maybe like to type your own for like older kids but a system to approve the word. Please reply..
