How many of you have ever thought of dinosaurs as ferocious, mean animals? I have a feeling the movie Jurassic Park has something to do with this obscured perception! But this simply isn’t true, and here are some interesting dinosaur facts to prove that rumor wrong: Dinosaurs were the largest animals of their era but had very small brains relative to their massive size. On top of that, the majority of dinosaurs were actually herbivores – plant eaters. Prevalent theories discuss the possibility of certain types of dinosaurs evolving into birds. For instance, small theropod dinosaurs exhibited some of the same behaviors as living birds, such as sleeping with their heads tucked under their wings and nesting to protect their eggs and to keep them warm. So next time you see a flock of little birds overhead, just pretend that their long-ago ancestors might have been a big old dinosaur!
Paper Plate Stegosaurus
What you will need:
- 1 paper plate
- Two different colors of paint
- Paint brush
- Googly eyes
- black permanent marker
- White glue
What to do
- Cut the paper plate in half. Directly down the middle.
- Take one half of the plate and cut a sock shaped piece for the head. Cut a two inch triangle to represent the tail of the dinosaur and two rectangles for the feet.
- Now with the rest of the cut up 2nd half of a paper plate, carefully cut 6 triangles with the rest of the plate. These will represent the spikes of the stegosaurus.
- Paint the body, head, feet, and tail one color.
- Take the second color and paint the spikes the second color
- Once the paint dries, glue the head onto one side and the tail on the opposite side. Glue the two feet at the bottom.
- Then glue the spikes to the back of the dinosaur so they stick up on its back.
- Now take the sharpie and add a smile. Then stick a googley eye on the dino!
TA-DA! Dinosaur masterpiece! You can stick it on the fridge or write on it and turn it into a card. If this cute craft doesn’t change the perception that dinosaurs were monsters, then I don’t know what will!
