  1. My child really has enjoyed playing jumpstart virtual world, but we are very sad about the Halloween themes. I find it hard to believe that a whole game will have this theme. We do not participate in Halloween customs; it would have been nice to not see this on here. Just wanted to share my feelings on this. I realize you can’t please everyone’s beliefs, but my child is very upset. How long will this theme be on here?
    Thanks,
    Mrs. King

    • Hi Kim,
I’m sorry to hear that you will not be enjoying the Halloween theme to our online world. I wanted to let you know that MarineLand, StoryLand, AdventureLand and the downloadable games (accessible under Manage Account for members) will not be Halloween-themed if you would like your child to jump to only those areas this month. The world will be reverted to its normal state on November 1st. If you have any additional questions, please contact our head of Customer Support, Mike Bowman, at mike.bowman@adventure.com, and he will be able to help.
      Thank you!

    • Get over it! Just because you don’t celebrate Halloween don’t ruin it for others.

    • Halloween is for children. Its having fun using your imagination to create creepy or stupid costumes and having fun with your friends getting as much candy as you can carry.HALLOWEEN IS FOR CHILDREN.Thank you Jump Start for understanding that fact.Children have the right to be children and enjoy these simple treats and fun innocent times while they can.Hopefully they wont grow up to be bitter and judgemental adults.

    • too bad your kids cant enjoy! I think all schools and every body should do halloween. This is a great idea I love it!!! My kids love it too. Keep it coming most familys love this!!

    • Please understand that most of the people do enjoy Halloween and jump start is for everyone to enjoy.
I look forward to all the themes.

    • Mrs. King,

I appreciate your view on this theme. It is to bad that some parents ignore the views of other parents. I also look forward to the end of this theme. We purchased this program specifically because it allowed us to select the themes and holidays we choose to celebrate and which we do not. Others can do as they choose, but in a world that relishes its violent television and hate laced lyrics it is hard for others to understand the views of parents that prefer not to expose their children to such themes. I hope that they soon release a configuration option to allow us to enjoy our paid subscription as everyone else is.

  2. I just received the e-mail about the new Halloween themed Jump Start world and my children, ages 4 and 6, are running around the house laughing and yelling about how excited they are to visit…..thank you for the extra work it takes to make the Jump Start World ultra exciting!

  3. I feel the same way! Our family does not participate in Halloween and this is really hard for little kids to have to deal with. Why not work on something cool that the kids can play year around – that isn’t spooky themed???

    • Your family may not participate in halloween activities and that is your choice i am not against that in any shape or form, find some other activity to do it’s not like that are making you go to the website and play the games with your kids, they are making these learning games for everyone to play not just you. If you don’t participate in it, then don’t find something else to do.

My family and I are not celebraters of Halloween but I do let my children participate in themed activties and I parent my children to understand these events in our Christian context. I think it is lazy parenting to expect the world, or a game used by more than just us, to worry all the time about offending or excluding the vocal minority.

  4. My son loves the theme and I’m very appreciative of the service. I’m a mathematics teacher who is currently off homeschooling my six year old. We are Christian Othodox followers and yet we enjoy the fall season and all its fun Halloween activities that go along with it. We do love the Halloween theme on this site. Thank you so much for putting this all together for the month :-)

  5. you better have fun with your child while you can lady.. as soon as the child turns about 14… it will start to hate you for keeping it away from stupid fun harmless things like halloween. And I speak from experience!

  6. I was so wonderfully surprised to see the halloween theme on the jumpstart. I adore jump start to begin with but it makes it so much more interesting for my daughter to come on and see the little halloween items on there. I do wish there were more halloween games like maybe counting pumpkins or something like that. I am sorry to hear someone is upset that you have enabled this on the game and hope this doesnt discourage jump start in the future on having this option for holidays in the future.

Everywhere you go almost there are halloween themes at stores and etc. and I think it is also great that you have the other options where people that are offended by it can still jump to. It is so cute to see how you have incorporated the halloween items throughout the world and we lloooovvvee it. I actually wanted to see more.

Thank you for having this wonderful educational game and utilizing it in such a manner as you do everyday. My daughter absolutely loves it and has learned so much. I tell everyone that has kids to go to your website and at least try it. I haven’t found anything comprable to it and applaude you and thank you.

  7. I love the Halloween theme…we are also looking forward to the Christmas theme too!!!

  8. While I feel for the families that are totally against Halloween, they cannot expect the rest of the world to cater to their minority issues. The majority of the country celebrates Halloween. If this is truly an issue for your child, then just have them play something else until the season is over. There is nothing to get terribly upset over, on either side of the fence.

  9. thank you for showing me this websit

  10. Can you direct me as to how to download this game, I cant seem to find the link

    • Hi Manny,
Halloween is taking place at JumpStart.com, in the online virtual world. You do not need to download anything other than the Unity plug-in (our 3D graphics engine) to play. The game itself is accessible in the browser. Hope that helps.
      Best,
      The JumpStart Team

      • Can you explain further? I don’t see it

        • Hi David,
After you’ve registered at JumpStart.com, click the Launch button on the next, main screen with the name of your child. You should be loaded into the JumpStart online world, which is Halloween-themed at large, outside of the specific, themed lands, like StoryLand or MarineLand. There is a Haunted House located in the Downtown district of the world, the southernmost area of JumpStart on the map. You can use the map by clicking on the map icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the play screen to reference your destination and current location. I hope this is the information you were seeking.
          Good hunting,

  13. What if you don’t have a credit card? Can you pay by check to stay with jump start.

    • Hi Elda,
If you don’t have a credit card, you can buy JumpStart Game Cards at chain retail stores that sell electronics, such as Best Buy, Target, or Toys R’ Us. You will be able to activate your account using the game card at JumpStart.com.
      Good luck with that,
      The JumpStart Team

  14. this is a great site and i love it

  15. While I appreciate the concerns of parents who do not celebrate certain holidays, as I do not celebrate all holidays either, I cannot understand the benefit of keeping a child away from holidays. They will eventually grow up and become a part of a world that celebrates a wide variety of holidays, from Christmas to Easter to Ramadan to Passover to Summer Solstice. Can you really believe that sheltering them from the diversity of the world will prepare them for life?
And to the person who commented that halloween goes along the same lines as hate lyrics and violence, do your homework dear. Halloween is considered a holy day to pay homage to those who have died in many cultures. If you think death is violent, you must not have much hope for what lies beyond it.
There are many holidays that I don’t personally observe, but I try to teach my children about the beliefs of others and allow them to participate in whatever celebrations they wish to; this is my personal preference, though, because I do not believe a child is emotionally mature enough to make an educated decision about his or her beliefs, and I feel it is far overstepping to make such an important decision for another person.

  16. With all due respect Ronda the research has been done. Halloween will forever be a pagan holiday. All Saints Day (a Roman Catholic Holiday) was transplanted to off-set this pagan holiday it is now celebrated on November 1st and is not celebrated in fear and death but rejoicing in a new life…

The term Halloween, originally spelled Hallowe’en, is shortened from All Hallows’ Even – e’en is a shortening of even, which is a shortening of evening. This is ultimately derived from the Old English Eallra Hālgena ǣfen.[16] It is now known as “Eve of” All Saints’ Day, which is November 1st.

A time of pagan festivities,[7] Popes Gregory III (731–741) and Gregory IV (827–844) tried to supplant it with the Christian holiday (All Saints’ Day) by moving it from May 13 to November 1.

In the 800s, the Church measured the day as starting at sunset, in accordance with the Florentine calendar. Although All Saints’ Day is now considered to occur one day after Halloween, the two holidays were once celebrated on the same day.

To speak to the comment about it is far overstepping to make such an important decision for another person. These are our children we are speaking about. If we do not train them up in the way they should go someone else will.

None of this has to due with the request for an option to select which holiday’s your children may experience with a learning game. Simply put this is a environment intended to develop our kid and be a fun place to learn, why does it have to be laced with this pagan holiday, the normal game is plenty fun!

  17. With all due respect, sir, I am a follower of earth-based (you use the term pagan, which translates into rural folk) spirituality, as are many people; so I’m not sure how my beliefs are offensive, as others’ beliefs do not offend me. Yes, Hallow’s eve has it’s roots in pre-Christian times, as do Easter and Christmas (previously Spring Equinox and Winter Solstice). You are correct, the homework has been done, and frankly, that still doesn’t answer the question as to how teaching a child to live in a world of diverse beliefs and observances and still maintain faith in their own beliefs is offensive. In my own humble opinion, I feel it is my duty as a parent to teach them how to live in this world, rather than attempt to isolate them from it and only surround them with like-minded people, which is a very frightening step toward bigotry.

  18. Well I think the Jumpstart Halloween decorations were fun while they lasted(I’m typing this in Febuary!) except for the ooey gooey slime for water. It’s gross.

  19. i tottaly agree wit judy smith because you can get over it because then halloween on jumpstart is just a celebration it`s not going to be everyday.
