Today is the 40th Earth Day, and it’s a great chance to think about how you can make the world a better and cleaner place. To get you started, JumpStart is joining in on the festivities!

First, we’ve put together a special scavenger hunt. Litterbugs have left their trash all over JumpStart, and we need your help to clean it up! Look around for discarded newspapers, pizza boxes, soda cans and more. The Earth Day scavenger hunt will continue through this weekend, but you should get started as soon as possible to make sure JumpStart stays as clean and beautiful as ever!

Make sure your friends don’t miss out on the festivities!

For those of you who are new to the photo challenge, William Wonderwings, a JumpStart Jumpee, has agreed to be photographed in various secret locations around the world at JumpStart.com.

If you are the first to correctly guess where he is, you’ll win coins! Parents – show your kids the photos William posts and help them describe his whereabouts. You just might be surprised at how well they know the JumpStart world!

The Rules:

Where could this be?

Our Jumpee’s name was Tommi RedGem. That’s a nice name, but we’d had it for a long time – ever since we first created our Jumpee! It was time for a change.

To change our Jumpee’s name, we headed over to the Name Change-O-Matic, which is located in MainStreet near the Movie Theater.

She’s excited to try out a new name!

Once we clicked on the Name Change-O-Matic, a screen appeared with all the name choices that were available when we first created our Jumpee.

We simply chose a new name from the lists and clicked the checkmark. Voilà – a brand-new name!

The best part is that you can choose a new name as often or as seldom as you’d like. Feel free to change your Jumpee’s name to suit your unique personality and mood!

Let your friends know they can change their Jumpees’ names!

First, have your child enter the virtual world at JumpStart.com and run over to his or her room. Make sure the room looks just the way he or she wants it, and have the Jumpee stand so that you have a good view of the room.

If you’re using a PC, you can press the “Print Screen” button to capture an image of the entire desktop and send it to your clipboard. To do the same on a Mac, press Command-Control-Shift-3. If you press Command-Control-3 on a Mac, the same image will be automatically saved on your desktop as a PNG file.

Open an image editing program like Microsoft Paint. Paste the image into the program.

In Paint, choose Edit > Paste.

Once you have the image pasted into the program, choose “Save As” to save the image to your computer.

Choose File > Save As... to save the file.

Make sure to save the file in a location where you’ll be able to find it easily. Facebook supports a fairly wide variety of file formats, but JPEG (.jpg) is a safe bet.

Now you’re ready to upload the photo to JumpStart’s Facebook fan page! First, navigate to the fan page. At the top of the screen just underneath the text entry box, there is an icon with a photo on it. Click on this icon.

Click on the photo icon to get started.

Next, Facebook will give you the opportunity to choose whether you want to upload a photo from your drive or take a photo with a webcam. Choose the first option.

Find the image file on your computer and upload it. Once you’ve uploaded your photo, simply click “Share” to show it to the JumpStart Team and other JumpStart fans!

As we deliberate, we’d like to get your input about which room is your favorite. Click over to the “Photos” tab to see the screenshots that other JumpStart fans have posted. To show your support for a screenshot, just click the “Like” button underneath it. Your guidance will come in handy as we work to pick out the most magnificent room in JumpStart! Once we have a winner, we’ll announce our pick on Facebook and right here on the JumpStart Blog.

Tell your friends you want to see their rooms!

Your child is now able to select which of their JumpStart buddies’ houses show up in their online neighborhood. They can even pick which spot their buddies’ houses occupy, so they can live next door to each other!

How do I add buddies to my neighborhood?

Kids can change up their neighborhood by clicking on the blue Neighborhood Builder kiosk.  This is where your child can change the buddies that appear at each house in their neighborhood.  To add a buddy to a house, have your child click on the buddy’s name on the displayed list of buddies and drag the name to the house slot he or she would like, replacing the JumpStart character or buddy that held the slot to the list of available buddies – sorry, Val 2.0!  Your child’s Jumpee will now be able to run up to their buddy’s house and say hello!  They can do this for all house slots in their neighborhood.

Your child can switch up his or her neighborhood by clicking on the blue Neighborhood Builder kiosk.

What do I do with the JumpStart characters and other buddies left over on my list?  Are these neighborhood changes permanent?

The buddies and characters your child does not place in their neighborhood will remain on the list of available alternate buddies, accessible through the Neighborhood Builder kiosk.  Kids can change the buddies placed in their neighborhood as much as they like, but they can not alter their friends’ neighborhoods.

How do I go to my buddies’ neighborhoods?

Have your child go into the Buddy Booth and click the name of the buddy whose neighborhood they would like to visit.  Once the buddy’s Jumpee name is selected, click the “Visit the Neighborhood” button at the bottom of the Buddy Booth screen, with the picture of a smiling house on it.  They will be able to go into their buddy’s neighborhood to see how it is decorated and who is living in it.  Your child’s Jumpee and all their buddies can run from house to house within the same neighborhood, enjoying the same neighborhood Funzone!

What’s more, a child will be able to throw a party in his or her neighborhood and invite friends over to celebrate together!  Read about it here!

If your kids can find JumpStart’s secret portals, they’ll be able to visit these sky-high destinations and more!  So here’s the challenge: tell your kids to check around every corner, behind every rock, and on every rooftop and see what JumpStart is hiding. If they happen to spot a swirling black spot in the ground, chances are you’ve got a true explorer on your hands! Good luck!

The JumpStart world goes Halloween this month!

To start the fun, grab your friends and head to the Jumpee Creator to design the perfect Halloween get-up. A swashbuckling pirate? A pretty princess? A stylish cat? A spooky ghost? The possibilities are endless!

Then it’s time to select the perfect spooky sidekick! Pick a bat, a pumpkin or maybe even a mini-skull.

Just keep in mind that the more JumpStart games you play, the more coins you’ll earn, and the more festive you can make your Halloween. But that’s not all! Once you are all decked out in your BOOtiful costume, it’s time to venture out into the slime-covered pumpkin-packed world for some festive Halloween fun. With special Halloween themed contests and challenges appearing throughout the month, it’ll be just as fun as trick or treating! Get excited…Halloween is just around the corner at JumpStart!
